Frederik Boits

Born in the Ekeren district of Antwerp, Belgium, violist Frederik Boits studied with Erwin Schiffer and Paul De Clerck at the Brussels Conservatory and with Jürgen Kussmaul at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he graduated with distinction in 2003. He also completed the soloists’ programme at the Walter Stauffer Foundation in Cremona under the tutelage of Bruno Giuranna. In 2003, he was a prizewinner at the international viola competition in Bled, Slovenia.

Boits is a former member of Holland Symfonia, where he served as principal violist for nine years. In 2012, he played in the London Philharmonic Orchestra for a brief period and subbed with the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne.

He regularly plays in Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Oxalys, Het Collectief and the Nieuw Ensemble.

Boits joined the viola section of the Concertgebouworkest on 1 May 2013.
