This season, the Bijlmer Klassiek series consists of five concerts on which members of the Concertgebouw Orchestra will be working together with musicians including pianists Djuwa Mroivili and Anna Fedorova, composer–guitarist Breno Virícimo, spoken word artist Zaïre Krieger, dancer Rutkay Özpinar and clarinettist Martin Fröst, who is serving as the orchestra’s artist in residence this season. Among the music featured on the series are works by Johannes Brahms, Florence Price, André Caplet and Nina Simone.

With this new collaboration, the Concertgebouw Orchestra is taking over from its violist Michael Gieler, who organised the successful chamber music series with the Bijlmer Parktheatre in Amsterdam Zuidoost for ten years.

Bijlmer Klassiek: The Extra Mile on 22 October

The new Bijlmer Klassiek series kicks off on 22 October with The Extra Mile, a concert about how music and language can strengthen and enhance each other. Bassist Nicky Schwartz and clarinettist Olivier Patey of the Concertgebouw Orchestra are teaming up with spoken word artist Zaïre Krieger, pianist Anna Fedorova and violinist Diet Tilanus in poetic and compelling music by Johannes Brahms and Dmitry Shostakovich.
